Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Turdy Character in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have found plenty of entertaining independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a character that is actually a turd striving to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Across one hundred fifty challenges, battle boss fights and visit a store to acquire skins for your poop character.
Plan your movements carefully, since one error requires restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to launch yourself to new heights, navigate disappearing platforms, and activate switches to unlock secret routes. Collect coins and use them on challenging game content in which gameplay intensifies.
Graphically, the demo boasts vibrant environments and an amazing background music. Its minimalist art featuring morphing abstract forms could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to think of similar titles where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment have long included toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as plant food. Naturally, this theme appears heavily in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable recognition, including winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is accessible now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to launch on PC this November.
